Hiring a carpenter can sometimes feel a little daunting, especially if it’s your first time tackling a home improvement project. Whether you’re planning a small job like fitting shelves or something bigger like a bespoke built-in wardrobe or garden structure, knowing what to expect can make all the difference.

At Plumptre Carpentry, I like to keep things simple, clear and stress-free from the moment you get in touch. Here’s a quick guide to how I work – and what you can expect at every step.

Getting in Touch
It starts with a quick message or call. Let me know what you’re looking for – whether that’s a full refurbishment or just a few shelves – and I’ll be happy to talk it through. I’ll usually ask for a few photos or measurements to get a feel for the job before arranging a visit.

“Paul was wonderful! His work is perfect, and he takes real pride in the finish.” Bridie, Vale of Glamorgan

A Free, No-Obligation Quote
Once I’ve seen the space or discussed the details, I’ll provide you with a clear, no-obligation quote. I believe in honest pricing – no hidden charges, no surprises – and I’ll let you know roughly how long the job will take and what’s involved.

“He sticks to his estimates and is incredible at clearing up after himself… We would be very happy to recommend him.” Tracey & Will, Hampshire

Scheduling the Work
If you’re happy to go ahead, we’ll find a date that works for you. I always do my best to stick to agreed timelines and communicate clearly if anything changes (for example, due to weather for outdoor jobs).

“Punctual, reliable, clean, responsible… done without any fuss or mess, and with a smile.” Marilyn, Cardiff

Getting the Job Done
This is where the magic happens! I treat every home with respect – protecting floors and furniture where needed, working as cleanly and efficiently as possible, and keeping disruption to a minimum. Whether I’m building a deck, hanging doors or crafting bespoke furniture, I take pride in delivering quality that lasts.

“I’ve employed Paul twice… His work is of very high quality. A very pleasant, reliable and hard-working man.” Craig, South Wales

The Finishing Touches
Once the job’s complete, I make sure everything’s finished to the highest standard. I’ll clean up thoroughly and leave the space tidy – something my clients really appreciate. I’m also happy to offer care tips and answer any questions before I leave.

“Couldn’t praise Paul more… work was of a very high standard, done without any fuss or mess, and with a smile.” Marilyn
